You have to hope you must be doing something right when a renowned, local artist such as Don Thur of Knots & Burls to Bowls asks you to carry some of his pieces in the gallery. We are so pleased to to be able to offer Don’s work to our customers.
Don has been creating his functional, one-of-a-kind art since 1995. What began as a hobby to fill the time has blossomed into a full blown second career for the Utterson man. Every burl is unique and Don pays attention to the smallest detail of graining, with the wood dictating to a large degree, the final design. He has been commissioned to create pieces for presentation to many dignitaries, celebrities and even royalty.
No living trees are harvested for the sake of Don’s art. Instead, he sources the wood from fallen trees and goes so far as recovering logs from local waters, near sites of former sawmills. Some of these salvaged timbers can date back hundreds of years.
